Grammarly — Back to School

Two :90 spots · Gen-Z campaign

When the agency Ghost Note (NYC / LA) set out to expand a Back-to-School pitch for Grammarly, they brought us in. The goal: widen Grammarly's visual language and win over incoming college students — Gen-Z — with two playful :90 commercials that show what the product can do without taking themselves too seriously.

The Brief

Grammarly wanted to grow its visual storytelling and drive Gen-Z adoption. Working with Ghost Note, we developed two spots for the Back-to-School campaign — built to show the power of the product while keeping the tone light, warm, and genuinely fun to watch.

Production

To land the creative on budget, we kept the shoot under two days without cutting corners on safety. To put multiple versions of each lead — Brent and Sarai — on screen together, we ran two cameras: Camera A locked off as a clean plate holding all four versions of the character, Camera B picking up coverage. Talent went through wardrobe and hair & make-up once per character, and every angle matched.

Practical Effects

The big entrances were practical, overseen by our Production Designer: Brent bursts through a breakaway wall, Kool-Aid-Man style; Sarai drops in from the ceiling on a mix of green screen and real falling tiles, tossed into frame from a lift. The result — two :90 spots aimed squarely at Gen-Z, and a campaign that earned its A+.
